Kelcine Wenray Hamilton, affectionately known as Kelly, is the first child of James Alexander (now deceased) and Muriel Hamilton of Staniard Creek Andros. The Hamiltons migrated to New York during the late 1940s but, Kelly grew up in The Bahamas with her grand aunt, the late Mrs. Rhona Johnson and late with her grandmother the late Mrs. Violet Deveaux in their devoted Anglican home. All the family in New Providence attended St. Agnes Anglican Church on Baillou Hill Road. This was the church where Kelly's parents where married, she was christened and confirmed and where all of her friends worshipped. For most of her life Kelly lived in the Grants Town area of New Providence.
However, living next door to Kelly's residence was an American Missionary Nurse, who was commonly known as Mother Tyler. This woman of God knew the Bible from cover to cover and shared the Word of God with many persons. She was also a musician and taught Kelly how to play the piano. Mother Tyler later led Kelly to the Lord. From a very young age, Kelly felt the call of God upon her life to serve Him in some area of Christian ministry.
Kelly's formal education began at Miss Vera Lowes Nursery, Quarry Mission Road off Nassau Street, and then she went on to St. Agnes Pre-School. She attended Wood Cock Primary, then she went on to Western Junior and Senior Schools. For her high School education, she was one of the elite few to attend The Government High School. It was the only high school in those days which was operated by the Government of The Bahamas for the education of the nations' children who were considered to be the top of the line academically. A qualifying entrance examination was taken by those candidates who wished to be considered for entrance.
Upon completion of her formal secondary education, she was employed as a Filing Clerk and then an Accounts Clerk at the Main Branch of the Bank off Nova Scotia on Bay Street where she remained until she decided to commence her tertiary education at Eastern Pentecostal Bible College in Peterborough, Canada during the year 1968. Each year form May to August, whilst she attended Bible College, Kelly was blessed with the opportunity to work at the Bank where she was able to earn most of the money to pay for her Bible College education. She attained a Diploma in Christian Education from Eastern Pentecostal Bible College and returned to the Bank of Nova Scotia to work for a while following her graduation from Bible College.
Later, Kelly went to work as a Secretary of Evangelistic Centre Assemblies of God and remained there until she joined the teaching staff of Kingsway Academy in 1971. During her tenure at the Church Kelly was responsible for organizing the filing system, forming a Children's Choir, heading groups of young missionaries to the Girls Industrial School [now Willamae Pratt Home for Girls], the Geriatric and Princess Margaret Hospitals, as well as organizing trips to the Family Islands and foreign countries.
Kelly had opportunities to travel to many countries around the world including Europe and Asia and to Caribbean countries such as: Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana where she was able to form some lasting relationships. She enjoys travelling to New York to be with her mother, her sisters, Ursula, Julia and Deborah, and brothers Donnie and Fredrick, along with their families.
In 1971 Kelly was offered a teaching position at Kingsway Academy, to teach Grade Three. There she began her formal journey of "training children in the King's way". Having little formal teaching experience, she had to seek help from many certified teachers around her. In 1979 when the High School at Kingsway was established, Kelly was asked to teach the first Grade 7. She admits that this was quite a challenge and she continued to learn as she taught. She later taught most of the English Language, English Literature, History and Social Studies classes while serving as the High School's Assistant Vice Principle during the early 1980's. She continued her upward mobility within the ranks of the administration of Kingsway and became Vice Principal. In 1995 she was appointed Principal of the High School, a position she held until the year 2000. In 2000, Kelly was transferred to the Business Office at Kingsway and was named Academy Affairs Manager, a position she held until her retirement. Kingsway Academy honored Kelcine Hamilton after her retirement in December 2009, with a day of recognition and fanfare in January 2010 for her outstanding contribution to the educational and organizational development of the institution.
Kelly's formal tertiary education did not end with her Diploma in Christian Education. As time moved on, she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Miami and in 1988 she obtained a Master of Business Administration Degree form the University of Miami.
She attributes her success to Almighty God, in whom she lives, moves and has her very being, and her relatives, church family and friends. Kelly has taught Sunday School since she was a teenager. She was encouraged to live the Word of God has had an opportunity to share the love of Jesus with the children in her neighborhood where she lived in Grants Town area. She held Bible Classes in Mother Tylers old car garage and then in her home. Her faith in God has also been strengthened as she taught Pedagogy, Public Speaking, Basic English and Music at the Assemblies of God Bible College to adults who were going into some sort of Christian ministry. Additionally, she has had the opportunity to teach various subjects at the College of The Bahamas and Success Training College.
For years Kelly assisted in the Music Ministry of Evangelistic Centre Assemblies of God and served as Treasurer for the National Youth Department of The Assemblies of God in The Bahamas. During the mid 1980s she was appointed Assistant National Sunday School Director for The Assemblies of God in The Bahamas, including Turks and Caicos Islands and remained in that position until May, 2007. She has conducted numerious workshops, seminars and training session in Assembly of God Churches throughout The Bahamas and Turk and Caicos Islands. For many years she assisted the Sunday School ministry at Bethany Assembly, Faith Assembly and others in New Providence. Most notably she taught the "Revolutioneers" and "Koinonia" Sunday School classes at Evangelistic Centre Assemblies of God.
Her motto for life is found in Proverbs 3:5 and 6:
"TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND LEAN NOT UNTO YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING. IN ALL OF YOUR WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM AND HE SHALL DIRECT YOUR PATH."
